Ingredients
-
300gSpaghetti
-
500gGround beef
-
500gTomato sauce
-
3Garlic
Instructions
1. Boil water
Begin by bringing a large pot of water to a rolling boil over high heat. Use about 4-6 liters (or a gallon) of water for 400 grams (14 oz) of spaghetti. Once the water is boiling, add a generous pinch of salt. This will enhance the flavor of the pasta. Stir occasionally to prevent the spaghetti from sticking together. Once the water is fully boiling, you are ready to add the spaghetti.
2. Cook beef
While the water is boiling, heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add about 1 pound (450 grams) of ground beef to the pan. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break up the beef into small crumbles. Cook the beef until it turns brown and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the beef if necessary, then set aside to be added to the sauce later.
3. Add garlic and onion
After the beef is cooked, lower the heat to medium. Add 1 finely chopped onion and 2-3 minced garlic cloves to the pan. Sauté the garlic and onion for about 2-3 to the sauce.
4. Add sauce
Once the garlic and onion have softened, pour in 1-2 cans (about 24 oz or 680 grams) of tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes into the pan. Stir to combine with the beef mixture. Lower the heat to a simmer, and let the sauce cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add a bit of water or broth to achieve your desired consistency. Taste the sauce and season with salt, pepper, and any herbs or spices you like (e.g., basil, oregano, or red pepper flakes).
